Our QUADRI family is from Montepulciano, a splendid Tuscan town recognized for its architecture as well as its famous, world-renowned Vino Nobile.
Long ago in the year 1848, our great-great-grandfather, after some years working in the mines, began the business enterprise of stationery and bookbinding. From then on a long series of historical events overlapped our own family’s history. Things like: the fall of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Garibaldi and the uniting of Italy, the First World War and Mussolini. Years pass, then we arrive in 1932, the year Livio Quadri (our grandfather) transferred his business to the location of the warehouses, cellars, and kitchens of the historic convent of the monks of Saint Stephen’s, our present location.
From 1950 to 1990 the two sons of Livio, Paolo and Tommaso, continued the work efforts through diligence, reliability and love for the livelihood started so many years before. In 1999 renovation work was completed on the historic store. By chance an Etruscan tomb was found, dating from the 3rd century A.D. intact with original paving, an underground granary, and a cistern for the collection of rainwater.
...ah, we have forgotten, if you come to our store don’t hope to meet those monks who for so many centuries lived in this locale; they had to flee Montepulciano driven out by Napoleon’s army.
Maledetti Toscani has been a focal point for many decades by Poliziani (citizens of Montepulciano); tourists and many illustrious visitors such as Pirandello, Curzio Malaparte, Federico Fellini, and Prince Charles of England; politicians; artists and intellectuals. The new partnership of Nicola, Alessandro and Sonia is continuing to grow our business even more favorably. In this way, the idea for the store in Cortona was conceived and then born in this charming city of the original Etruscans. It is known to all the world as the new Maledetti Toscani store, where clients can find all the latest fashions.
Actually, our brands are presently in more than 20 Italian cities as well as a few foreign countries such as France, Spain, England, United States and the Canada.
