We want to remember that the animals are not killed directly for the tanning of its skins that come from the various slaughterhouses, in addition the tanneries by purchasing the leather avoid problems of disposal and pollution. Furthermore, vegetable tanned leather products can be disposed of easily thanks to its chemical-biological characteristics.
In order to maintain high levels of attention, tanneries invest annually in purification plants while respecting the environment. The vegetable tanned leather guarantees the absence of toxic and harmful substances both for man and for the environment. Following the principles of the circular economy of recovery-recycling-reuse, the waste from the various processing stages is transformed into raw materials useful for other supply chains.
The Tuscan Tanning District is the only Italian district certified by EMAS (Eco-management and Audit Scheme), a tool promoted by the EU to encourage the implementation of responsible environmental strategies.
